Sandani Sulochani
Sri Lankan Dance

Sandani Sulochani is a renowned dancer and choreographer from Sri Lanka. She began performing at age seven. She has won over twelve dance awards from the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka during her youth. She received both her Bachelors and Masters of Arts in Dance at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka.
Sandani also holds a National Diploma in Choreography from the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo and earned a certificate from the Chitrasena-Vajira School of Dance’s Teacher Training Program. Sandani’s graduate research provides an in-depth overview of Vajira Chitrasena, Sri Lanka’s first professional female Kandyan dancer, and the dance pedagogy she developed.
After receiving her graduate degrees, Sandani became a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Kelaniya and Ladies’ College while teaching and performing as one of the lead members of the acclaimed Chitrasena Dance Company. With her husband and drummer, Waruna Hemachadnra, Sandani is now the co-founder of the US-based dance company and school, SandaWaruna Art of Dance.
