Shyam Ravidath is the student of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. Thiruvarur Bakthavathsalam. His initiation to mridangam was with Dr Ravi Balasubramanian in Portland, Shyam did his arangetram at the age of 9 in 2018. His widely watched video clip accompanying Sangeetha
Kalanidhi Neyveli Santhanagopalan brought Shyam's musical brilliance to attention. Over the past 4 years, Shyam has made his mark on online platforms through his vibrant playing. He has built a strong base of followers and every performance is keenly watched by worldwide rasikas.
Shyam has been performing in Chennai during each of the 2020-23 December music season concerts as well as the Cleveland Aradhana Festival.
In Sep 2023, Shyam was chosen as the North American Mridangam Artist by the Indian Fine Arts San Diego festival (IFAASD) and performed for a full audience concert. Other notable awards include first prize in the advanced age category in the Rotary Hallmark Competition Chennai in 2021 and the Absolute First Prize in the International Percussion competition held in Geneva.
