Kevin Moran is a Los Angeles-based percussionist, composer, and educator. He incorporates many musical practices from cultures around the world into his work. Kevin has performed and recorded at notable locations such as the Lightning in A Bottle Music Festival, Capitol Records, the CalArts World Music Festival, MetLife Stadium, and many others.
His compositional work, which blends global rhythmic concepts and electronics, can be heard at the forefront of his band, Gather, in their self-titled 2022 EP, which he co-composed and produced.
Kevin holds a BFA in World Music from the California Institute of the Arts and is currently pursuing an MM in Music Production at Berklee College of Music. He is a student of West African drumming and dance with Yeko Ladzekpo-Cole, Andrew Grueschow, Francis Akotuah, Attah Poku, and Sulley Imoro; Tabla and Hindustani classical music with Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri and Randy Gloss; Balinese gamelan with I Nyoman Wenten; and music technology with Amy Knoles, John Baffa, Bradley Butterworth, and Nicolas Maldonado.
Kevin teaches Asante music in the CalArts advanced African ensemble and has taught percussion, theory, and music production throughout LA and across the US to students of all ages. He has taught in many contexts, including elementary schools, colleges, juvenile halls, and private lessons.
Kevin is ecstatic to be performing in the 2024 Festival of Tabla alongside esteemed collaborators Vishnu R and Shubha Chandramouli in a trio of world music fusion. He is also thrilled to be hosting an interactive presentation on global rhythmic concepts through the lens of electronics
