Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri

Disciple of Acharya Santosh Krishna Biswas - Lucknow Gharana

Esteemed the world over for his purity of sound, depth of knowledge, rhythmic creativity, and dedication to teaching, Maestro Swapan Chaudhuri is considered one of the greatest living musicians and tabla virtuosos of our time. As both a soloist and accompanist, Swapan's nuanced and lyrical ability to bring to life even the most complex and challenging compositions gives audiences a rare glimpse into the depth and majesty of tabla's vast repertoire. Two records, Legacy (1997) and Passing on the Tradition (1998), were nominated for Grammy awards, on which Swapan collaborated with Asha Bhosle and Maestro Ali Akbar Khan.


He is cherished and honored in his homeland of India, where in 2011 he was awarded a National Lifetime Achievement Award, the Bharat Ke Sangeet Ratna, by the Art & Cultural Trust of India for his lasting contributions to classical Indian music and tabla. He is a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award (1997) from the Government of India.

Pandit Sadanand Naimpalli

Disciple of Pandit Taranath Rao - Farukhabad, Dehli & Ajrada Gharana

Pandit Sadanand Naimpalli is one of the most outstanding Tabla and Pakhawaj maestros of India.  Sadanandji was initiated into the art of Tabla playing by the legendary Guru and Tabla/Pakhawaj maestro, Pandit Taranathji, of Farrukkhabad Gharana. After an extensive “Taalim” extending to six years, he won the President’s award at the All India Radio competitions in 1963. He was also adjudged the most accomplished young Tabla player at the Inter-University Youth Festival and was invited to join a Students Delegation to Europe and the Middle East . 

Sadanandji has written two books on the art of Tabla which are both considered the best books on the subject and both written in English to reach a wide audience.  The first book entitled “Theory and Practice of Tabla” with a foreword by Ustad Zakir Hussain sold out within a year and the publishers, M/s Popular Prakashan, have come out with six reprints of the book since.  On the 21st of February 2009, another book entitled “Tabla for Advanced Students” authored by Sadanandji, was released amidst a gathering of an elite audience consisting of respected Musicians like Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan, Pt. Bapu Patwardhan, Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar, and Pt.Anindo Chatterjee.  The foreword of this book is written by Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, the noted Santoor wizard and Musician par excellence.

Pandit Shashanka Bakshi

Disciple of Pt. Samta Prasad of the Banaras Gharana

Shashanka Bakshi has engaged in a life devoted to the art of Tabla performance and Indian Classical Music. His training began at the age of six under the tutelage of Pt. Bhola Prasad, who later sent him to study with the celebrated Pt. Kanai Dutta. After the untimely demise of Pt.Kanai Dutta, he was requested by the legendary tabla maestro Pt. Samta Prasad to become his direct disciple. He continued to receive intensive training from him in the Benares Gharana lineage for the remainder of Pt. Samta Prasad’s life, and is currently the most senior disciple of the great tabla legend. With a career spanning over five decades, he has accompanied such celebrated artists as Pt. Nikhil Banerjee, Ustad Bahadur Khan, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Imrat Khan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Nishat Khan, Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, Pt. V.G. Jog, Pt. Daya Shankar, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pt. Ronu Majumdar, Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya and Ustad Aashish Khan, along with many others.

Vijay Kangutkar

Disciple of Pandit Taranath Rao - Farukhabad, Dehli & Ajrada Gharana

Born and brought up in Bombay, Vijay was introduced to Indian Classical Music from a young age as he accompanied his father to regular practice sessions and concerts. At the age of thirteen Vijay began taking Vocal lessons from his fathers teacher, the late Pt. Tulsidas Sharma (Disciple of Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan of Patiala Gharana). Vijay was soon drawn to Tabla and concentrated on learning under the direction of Shri Madhukar Kunkawalekar, a disciple of the great master Pt. Taranath Rao. In 1965 Vijay was put under the tutelage of the great master himself.

Vijay moved to Glasgow Scotland in 1989. Since then he has been teaching for AsianArtistes Association (Scottish academy of Asian Arts) and Strathclyde Regional council Department of Education, Glasgow City Council Department of Education.

Vijay brings two of his senior students with him to perform for the Festival of Tabla 2018.

Alam Khan

Disciple and Son of the Legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan - Maihar Seni Gharana

Son of the legendary Sarode Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, Alam has been touching the hearts of audiences worldwide for many years. Since his initial training into the Maihar Seni Gharana at the age of seven, Alam was blessed to learn and live in the traditional style of Guru and student.  Ali Akbar Khan's careful crafting and guidance shows in each note as well as in Alam's imaginative way of expressing the ancient ragas passed down from the courts of Emperor Akbar by Mian Tansen in the 16th century.

Along with accompanying his esteemed father, Alam's inner voice began to emerge and grow with his solo career, which began in 1998. He has toured worldwide and established himself as Ali Akbar Khan's true heir and the face of a new generation of Sarode players, attracting praise and attention from musical icons such as Sitar Legend Ravi Shankar, Carlos Santana, Slide Guitarist Derek Trucks, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, and many more of India's finest musicians.  Alam has had the privilege and honor of performing alongside some of India's greatest Tabla masters-- such as Swapan Chaudhuri, Zakir Hussain and Anindo Chatterjee--in a constantly growing list of highly reputed venues, including the Dover Lane Music Festival, Saptak, Darbar Festival, the San Francisco World Music Festival, the Chicago World Music Festival and the Carnegie Group in NYC. 

Pankaj Mishra

Disciple of Pandit Mahesh Prasad Mishra - Banaras Gharana (Sarangi)

Sarangi artist Pankaj Mishra born into a lineage of exceptional family of musicians, the son of Sri Satyanarayan Mishra, Grandson of Pt. Mahadeo Prasad Mishra, and great-grandson of Sarangi Virtuoso Pt. Saraju Prasad Mishra, Pankaj was trained from an early age by the renowned Sarangi maestro Pt. Mahesh Prasad Mishra of the Benaras Gharana. He is a highly regarded soloist & accompanist, performing with such renowned artists as, Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt.Subhankar Banerjee to name a few. His dance recital performances with kathak exponent Padmabhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt.Chitres Das, Pt. Vijay Shankar have been widely acclaimed. Vocal accompaniment with Padmabibhusan Girija Devi, Bidushi Purnima Chowdhury and others. His performances at Hollywood movies & documentaries. Jungle Book is his latest edition.

Rajib Kamarkar

Rajib Karmakar is a Los Angeles based performance artist, composer and educator who combines tradition with experiment to create new forms, drawing from a deep grounding in Indian classical music to wide varieties in contemporary world music, rock and jazz.

Rajib has been performing in India and abroad including USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland performing for Ministry of Spain(Spain), Ottawa Council for Arts(Canada), Ganesh Mahotsav(India), Boom Festival(Portugal), Deutsch Indische Gesellschaft(Germany), Festival of India(USA and Canada), Festival Papillotes(France), Harbourfront Summer Series(Toronto), NAMM(Los Angeles), Theatre Rogue Du Conservatoire(Montreal), National Arts Center(Ottawa) Tropical Heatwave Festival(Tampa), Straz Center(Tampa) , Castello Di Romeo(Italy), Roy.O.Disney Hall(Los Angeles) and many more.


Rajib's versatility and ability has allowed him to adapt his classical skills and knowledge to his various world music projects such as Dhara(USA), Wahh World Fusion(USA), Loop Science(Germany), Nada Naissance (France) etc. with his own creation “ Mayur Tantri” -the worlds first double necked sitar. Rajib received his MFA in Music from California Institute of the Arts, USA and currently he is the founder and director of Los Angeles International Music and Arts Academy.

Pandit Sanatan Goswami

Sanatan is now an outstanding luminary in the stardom of musical galaxy of India. A renowned Harmonium Player of his generation.

He was introduced to Vocal music by his Uncle Late Manindra Goswami who was the student of Late Sangitacharya Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri. Later on he started taking his talim from Pandit Dinanath Mishra. He took his talim in Harmonium from Pandit Maharaj Banerjee the son of Late Pandit Montu Banerjee, and took his further talim from Late Pandit V.GJog.


In addition to being a reputed solo Harmonium player and Vocalist Sanatan is among the few choicest accompanists of most prominent celebrities of our country like Pt.Jasraj, Pt.Rajan Misra, Pt.Sajan Misra, Girija Devi, Pt.Ajoy Chakraborty, Ustad Rashid Khan, and Tabla Maestroes like Pandit Shankar Ghosh, Pt.Swapan Chowdhury, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt.Anindo Chatterjee, Pt.Gobindo Bose, Pt. Samar Saha,Pt.Anando Gopal Bandhyopadhyay, Sree Bickram Ghosh,Sree Subhankar Banerjee ,Avijit Bannerjee and many other Great Maestros. Performed in almost all major music conferences in all over India like Dover lane Music Conference, Spic Macay, Swar Ganga Sammelan, Jalsaghar, Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, ITC Sangeet Sammelan, Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra, Saptak Of Ahmedabad, Sangeet Piyasi and many others. Paresh Naik.  Passed music examination with distinction from Karnataka board.  Won few awards from bankers cultural academy and 5th annual amateurs music club and from many other local organizations in Bangalore. Expertise in singing Khyal and Bhajans.
